The smell of blood was think in the air, but the wind carried it slowly away. A lone demon could be seen washing himself in a stream, blood flowing down it. He splashed water on his chest, washing blood off of it; his blood. His skin was deeply torn, but no pain showed on his face. With the wound clean, he walked out of the water, evaporating it off his body, and sealed his wound with fire. It would be fully healed in a day, but right now, it looked rather gruesome.
Ash dressed himself, but didn't close the front of his shirt, but left it open for the wound to breath. He yawned and started walking up stream. The water was fresher up there, and no demons were around. He was attacked in his sleep, but out of the many demons that attacked him, he only obtained the initial wound, mainly from the surprise attack. He slayed the demons and rid the forest of their bodies, burning them to ash.
Ash finally arrived at his campsite, devoid of the scent of battle and blood, and sat himself on the ground. Within minutes, he was asleep again. This was his first time, besides earlier when he was woken up for a fight, that he got in a week. A peaceful look settled on his hard face. [/sub]

It was the first time in a long time where Merodi felt...happy. The days had gone by and she had yet to feel threatened, to feel fear like she normally did. Maybe today she would be alright. Maybe today she could sing without feeling a threat. Without fearing someone would hear her. Maybe, just maybe...
The deer demon had gone a long time without singing. Each day it had become harder and harder to silence herself in order to not cause attention to herself, afraid of the past happening all over again.
Merodi licked her lips, nervously looking around as she walked. She opened her mouth, waiting for the lyrics to flow out of her as they always did.
"I wait to hear the bells The bells, the bells, the bells..."
The deer paused, swallowing hard as she tugged on the choker around her neck. This time it wouldn't stop her. And she quietly continued,
"Cup my hand around my ear to listen for them The bells I ache to hear the bells The bells, the bells, the bells..."
Merodi paused again, blinking as she realized her motions fit to the song, and her hand had went up to her ear, trying to listen for bells she knew only existed in the song. She smiled. Oh, how she missed this. She missed singing and dancing and enjoying. She opened her mouth again, to sing the next lines and her body moved with the song, following the actions spoken.
"Hold my breath, hold my chest-wait for them The bells I start to hum a tune, oh so softly hum a tune One foot from the other, and the first it follows suit Oh so slowly follows suit..."
Another pause. A slow intake of breath. And caution thrown to the wind.
"I am taken by the sun! The golden glorious sun! Arms spread wide and my face toward the sky! I am singing at the top of my lungs! I am taken by the sun!
Near silent behind the trees I hear them now The bells They are ringing, I am singing with the bells There is joy I cannot spell with dry words or letters I can sing it very well and it comes out much better I am singing very well of the joy I cannot say Without the music of the bells..."

Ash opened his eyes as soft words touched his ears. They were distant, almost hard for him to hear, but he heard them easily. He cocked his head slightly, listening. He rose from the ground, tying his red sash tighter on his waist, stuck one of his swords it it, jumped into a tree, and went off to find the singer.
It wasn't hard to fallow her voice. He wiped the hair off his face and landed not far from the demon, but he was out of sight in a tree. He sat there and listened for a moment before jumping to the ground not far from the demon.
Nice singing. Don't worry, I won't hurt you.
Ash adjusted his sword and somewhat closed up his shirt, hiding the wound. He didn't wanna scare the demon off. He probably already startled her with his entrance. [/sub]

Merodi gasped, choking on her voice and not even able to get out a scream as she jumped away from the sudden appearing person, ran, tripping over her own two feet before forcing herself up again, running behind a tree. She whimpered, mentall beating herself over and over for thinking she would be able to sing. Of course not!! She closed her eyes tightly, placing her hands over her head. "S-sure you won't!"

Ash smiled slightly as the demon girl hid behind a tree. If Ash wanted to kill her or worst, he would just slice through the tree and her with it, but he wasn't like that. He meant her no harm.
I give you my word that I shall not harm you. Now come out from behind there. There's no reason to be shy.
Ash sat down at the foot of a tree, grimacing slightly. His chest wound pained him when he ran here, but he just needed a short rest to get back to normal. He rubbed it slightly, waiting for the pain to recede from his body. [/sub]

Merodi breathed deeply, slowly moving herself to look past thre tree to look at the stranger. The tree was the only thing between them and she wasn't going to get rid of her only security. She bit her lip nervously, hiding again as she tried to gain her courage as she slowly stood up and stepped out behind the tree. She kept herself close to it, bowing her head slightly as she looked at him. "I-I'm sorry if I disturbed you..." she shouldn't have sang. She shouldn't have. Really shouldn't have.

Ash looked up and covered his chest again. He sniffed the air, and easily smelled her deer traits. No wonder she was easy to startle. He looked her over once before smiling softly and reassuringly.
Don't worry, you didn't disturb me. I'm Ash.
Ash set his head back, looking up at the tree tops. He heard the birds rustling up there, and watched some fly over the high canopy of the forest. [/sub]

Merodi looked at him nervously, biting her lip as she hunched her shoulders, putting her hands behind her back. Ash; he said. She nibbled on her lower lip, looking around her for things lurking in the trees or in the bushes. Looking for easy escape roots. "I-I'm Merodi..." she stuttered out her answer. She was jumpy and ready to run at any moment. Something could happen at any moment. She didn't know what that something was, but there was something. There was always something. "U-um..." she began but stopped herself. What was she going to say...? She hadn't thought far enough ahead.

Ash looked back at the girl, Merodi. She seemed real jumpy, like a real deer. He didn't really have anything to sooth her and make her trust him, but that wasn't what he was aiming for. He wasn't one to have friends. He tried not to make connections, but they usually happen.
I am the safest thing to be around in this forest, so don't be shy. [/sub]

Merodi didn't trust his words and continued to look around nervously. "W-why is that?" was he that strong? Could he defeat anything? She bowed her head, taking in deep breathes to calm herself. No more stuttering. No more shaking. She could say it as much as she could but it didn't really help her stop. "What kind of demon are you..?"

I'm the demon you want on your side. I could be anyone's best friend, or their worst enemy. I protect those who need it, and kill those who deserve it. I protect humans and demons, for I am both, and I kill both, for I know their evils.
That was a good enough definition for Ash. He didn't state his dragon blood, because not many people trusted them. Many were evil and too powerful, but Ash was an example of what could be called a 'good' dragon, but that was his human blood dampening his demonic nature. If that went out of control, his almost split personality would take over, and he would become a completely evil killing machine. He didn't want that to happen because he would kill those who were good. He looked at the girl and smiled softly.
In other words, I am a very powerful friend who wont hurt you. [/sub]

The information given to her only made Merodi more nervous. Trusting was never a strong suit in deer demons. Such a thing got them killed. Instinct drove them to watch everyone and everything for danger. Oh, the gods were so cruel to create such weak demons. No wonder there weren't any left. She looked downward, slowly stepping forward before bringing herself to sit down in front of him. "Well, um...t-that's nice to know..."

I doubt it. There is a backlash to what I spoke of. It means that if im not careful, I will be like other demons and kill nonstop. That isn't something I want.
He leaned his head back, hurting slightly. He gently held his hand to his chest/stomach, but made sure not to open his shirt. After a moment, he picked his head up again and looked at the demon girl sitting in front if him.
You are the first person to talk to me besides a couple of human girls about a week ago. It feels good to talk so someone.
He leaned his head back, at complete ease. [/sub]

Merodi smiled, moving her legs up to her chest. She placed her chin on her knees. She closed her eyes, her bangs covering her face. "I haven't spoken to someone since..." she paused, trying to think on how long it had been. Since she escaped, yes? That had been...a while back. She sighed, tugging on the leather strap wrapped around her ankle. That she had yet to get rid of. "Since." she left it at that.

Must have been a long time ago, then.
Ash closed his eyes, smiling at nothing in particular. He didn't open his eyes as a large bird called out overhead. He scratched his ear with his hand, pulled up his right leg, rested it there, and let his hand fall across his stomach. Within seconds, he was sound asleep, and yet totally aware of everything going on around him. [/sub]
