Out of Foolish Curiosity and Boredom

Kiraan was bored, and being the strange person that he was, Kiraan had the most insanely marvelous plan to entertain himself. He was going to walk straight into the demon-slayer's village, sit down, and see their reaction. He was curious. Would they attack him? Would they examine him? Would they question his actions? He was so excited! Being a demon himself, he knew he'd get results!

And so, with that, Kiraan hopped down from the ledge he'd been watching the village from, and skipped through the entrance singing children's songs. Some of the people that were circulating through the village stopped what they were doing to stare at the crazy demon as he sat down in the center of the village, still humming his songs.

Kiraan, in order to attract maximum attention while sitting down, began to twiddle his thumbs. He spread his legs out so as to maybe trip careless passerbys, and he said, "Hello," and "How're the kids?" to said random passerbys as well. He could almost taste his long awaited results.

This was the most insane, amusing, and the most hilarious moment Tai had ever had in her five years of life. She was near the entrance of the village, when all of a sudden, a demon -- she knew it was a demon, it was obvious -- skipped into the village singing songs she herself liked to sing, plopped down in the middle of the village and tried to get the most attention he possibly could. It was all Tai could do to stop from falling to the ground and bursting into laughter. But she sprinted after the demon, curious as the who this strange being was. How could a demon be so foolish as to walking into the one village in all of Japan that was filled with demon slayers? But he wasn't exactly threatening; he asked passerby how their children were, said hello, and continued to hum harmless children's songs.

Tai giggled as her long pink hair flew out around her as she ran over to the demon, and then she ran a lap around him, jumping over his outstretched legs. Then she stood in front of him, grinning, her eyes closed as she grinned.

"Konnichiwa! I'm Tai! What's your name?" She said in a playful voice. She didn't mind the other villagers glancing at her with concern, or sometimes, in the case of the other children, staring. Some of the younger ones hid behind their mothers, who were doing the laundry or cooking outside and eyeing the demon warily. A couple men were giving them suspiscious glances. But they all knew little Tai, and that she could very well take care of herself, and that her adopted siblings, Syeira, Tek and Kiki, would defend her as well. The men in a nearby pub tried to look inconspicious, but they were obviously glancing toward the demon when he was distracted from their direction. Tai skipped over to them, her short, sea-green kimono gently billowing out in the cool, refreshing summer breeze. The kimono only reached her knees, and the sleeves stopped at her elbows, and the fabric, although it was a very rich material, was very thin. She looked at the men, her hands behind her back as she gave them that heartmelting grin that only children could muster.

"Hallo, misters, but I'd like it if you'd stop watching my friend o'er there. He din' do nothin' to make you stare at 'im, and he ain't dangerous, so you shouldn't stare. 'Sides, 'tis rude." And on cue, the sun caught the silver and gold hilt and sheath of her dagger that was on a loose ivory belt at her hip. They looked at her pouting face, teh dagger, then grunted and turned back to their drinks.

"Arigato~" She said cheerfully, and returned to her position standing in front of the somewhat crazed demon. She waved a hand with long, but slightly chubby baby fingers at the men.

"So what's your name?" She asked, her tone inquisitively cute.

Kiraan chuckled. "Kiraan-kiraan's name is Kiraan. Kiraan-kiraan was hoping someone would notice him soon! Kiraan-kiraan's pleased to meet you, Tai!" He flashed her a fanged, but not in any way menacing, grin.

"So, Tai, are your family members demon slayers? Will you be a demon slayer someday, too? Are you looking forward to it?" He paused, and then added. "Sorry, Kiraan-chan asks too many questions. Answer what you want, child."

Some other children were eying him and the little girl, like maybe they wanted to see what was going on, but their mothers urged them into their huts. Kiraan smirked. Even in a demon-slayer village, people feared demons, and became wary.

Tai gave him a big grin. No, this demon really wasn't a dangerous one. Kind of childish, but what were you going to do?

"Nope! The only family members I have are demons! Sy-chan and Kiki-chan and Tek-kun." It might sound funny coming from a five-year-old, but Tai didn't care how she sounded. She held out one of her tiny hands out for Kiraan to shake. He referred to himself in third person, Tai thought, but he wasn't too insane. People seemed to think the way you referred to yourself designated you as either crazy or normal. 'I' was normal, but when speaking about yourself in third person was frowned upon. Tai sat down, her knees folded underneath her. She tucked a ringlet of pink hair behind her ear, then continued to smile, her magenta eyes shining.

"I don't think Kiraan-chan asks too many questions!" She said, with a small, tinkly giggle. She didn't mind being asked questions, but she hated people constantly asking her about how she was doing, like Sy-nii-chan did. Sy-chan was always way too concerned about her then even she was about herself. The demoness really was a worry-wart. Tai giggled at the thought.

"Oh, Kiraan-kiraan sees!" he exclaimed, taking her tiny hand in his and giving it two quick shakes. Kiraan-kiraan never realized how big his hands were until he compared it to a child's, Kiraan thought. How odd.

"So, if your siblings are demons, what are you doing in a demon-slayer's village?" He asked, glad he wasn't overwhelming her with questions. "Are your siblings nearby? Or are you traveling alone? Tell Kiraan-kiraan if he gets too nosy." When he first met people, he asked a lot of questions out of curiosity. After all, he knew barely anything about Tai at that point.

If you were starting over with a new name and life, after all, one needed new friends.

Tai laughed her tinkly laugh as he asked her a bunch more questions. She didn't think he was nosy. She liked talking.

"Well, they're not really my siblings, but they're just like them. Sy-chan found me when my Okasan and Otosan died, since a mean demon came through the village and killed everyone. Sy-chan may be a demon, but I'ma human. So no one minds me here. 'Sides, I got Zeffy!" She said, turning to curl her fingers along the hilt of the silver and gold dagger with the bird shapped guard. She drew it quickly from it's sheathe, and in a burst of topaz energy, she had it in her hand. He didn't change like Tetseiga does, but Zephyr did occasionally like to show off. Tai showed the demon the dagger, but didn't let him touch it.

"Zeffy doesn't like demons. He's not racist, or whatever that means -- that's what Sy-chan calls him -- he's just choosy. Sy-chan found him and gave him to me." Tai explained proudly, the dagger glowing with an almost unearthy gold light. It too was proud of its partner. Tai beamed, obviously just as happy as Zephyr.

Kiraan chuckled. "All well. Kiraan-kiraan thinks no less of Zeffy," He said with an almost sad smile. He'd gotten rid of his sword 20 years ago, when he left his village to live with his brother. He was glad, though, that his sword hadn't followed him in those 15 years of human slaughter. Those 15 years living entirely off of...

No, Kiraan! He thought to himself firmly. You mustn't think about it. You mustn't think of the taste of human flesh, especially not in front of this human girl! He wasn't about to revert into that primitive being he once was.

"Tai," he said to distract himself. "Do you like crackers? Kiraan-kiraan thinks he has some..." He put both hands in his pockets and searched. Finding nothing, he paused to think of where they could be. Kiraan's face lit up and lifted one finger as if to say, "Aha!", and then shook his sleeve until a little bag of crackers rolled out and fell to the floor. The bag was of soft purple material, and closed tight by a light pink ribbon. He held it out to her and smiled. "Here you go, Tai!"

Tai squealed in delight, and took the purple bag gingerly. She didn't snatch it away like most five-year-olds would, but she was eager. She wasn't too hungry, but she did like crackers.

"Arigato Kiraan-Kiraan!" She said in a singsong and airy voice. Zephyr was gently placed in her sheathe, sliding in with a metallic 'click'. Tai pulled the pink ribbon, smiling in slight fascination at the soft texture that was pleasant to feel. The pink haired girl peered into the bag, her eyes wide and inquiring. when she saw the crackers at the bottom, she giggled happily, took one out and nibbled on it. She offered the bag to Kiraan, in case he wanted one.

"Kiraan-chan, wanna have a practice-fight when I finish? Me and Zeffy could most definately beat'cha!" She said, her voice confident, but as adorable as ever as she pleaded.

"Sy-chan usually spars with me, but her and Kiki-chan and Tek-kun haven't been here in a while. I think they're on secret missions." She said, her voice lowering to a whisper as she finished the sentence, shifting her eyes back and forth ina secretive way. Of course, Syeira, Kiki and Tek were doing nothing of the sort; but five-year-olds have a large imagination.

He smiled at her offer. "No, Tai. The crackers are yours, Kiraan-kiraan has more... Some where..." He slapped his pockets and sides for a moment, until he located the second bag of crackers, buried in the undershirt of his kimono. "Aha. See? Kiraan-chan's gonna eat his later, though."

When she mentioned a practice fight, he turned a little pale. Kiraan quickly shook it off, though, and smiled at Tai. "Kiraan-kiraan hasn't fought in years... You probably could beat him! Anyway, Tai... Um... He doesn't have a sword." He hated going easy on little kids. She'd be able to see his lack of effort, if he did, anyway. But he definately did not want to go full force on a 5 year old human child! Not after all the children- and adults- that he'd slaughtered mercilessly in the past. And ESPECIALLY not after he'd enjoyed it.

Tai tilted her head. She noticed it whe he went pale.

"Well, I dun hafta use Zeffy. But I got powers anyways, 'cuz Zeffy's special. He gave them to me. See? Try to get within three inches of me." She said. She giggled, sitting there harmlessly, but if he tried to get within three inches, like Tai said as an example, he'd be zapped, the intensity varying on how hard he pressed against the barrier. And her barrier wasn't the only thing that she could do to avoid taking any hits in battle; Zephyr would lend to her inhuman strength and speed.

"And even though you're a demon, I could probably beat you in a race! Oooh, that's an idea! We could have a race! Pwwwweeeeeeaaaassssseeee?" She begged, her eyes big and sparkly.

OOC- S'all good. I'm not used to longer posts... >_< I have to exercise my unactive roleplaying organ! lol.

Kiraan was about to move within the specified length of Tai, when she mentioned a race. "Oh, a race? That sounds good, Tai." He smiled, and color began to return to his face. "But Kiraan-kiraan warns you, fox demons are quick on their feet!" It was true, of course. When in full demon form, they float gracefully, but when in their human form, their thin, angled bodies are rather aerodynamic.

Of course, Kiraan knew he wasn't the fastest demon out there. In fact, he was a little out of shape for a demon his age, since he hadn't done battle in years. But he was still pretty fast, and when compared to a human, his speed was near godlike. Since he wasn't putting Tai in danger, now, he wouldn't mind going full force during the competition.

Tai giggled.

"Silly Kiraan-Kiraan! I never said the race was limited to feet!" She said gleefully, relieved, however, that Kiraan seemed much more willing to race. She was the type who loved to please others. At least for now; She was only five, remember. Zephyr glowed in an excited gold light as the agreement for a race was established, and Tai turned to snicker at him.

"Zephyr is ready to go! He's almost jumping out of his case!" She said, grinning broadly. It was true; Zephyr was shaking his sheath around widly, like a child waiting to get their first present from under the Christmas tree.

Kiraan cocked an eyebrow. What did the child mean by the race not being limited to feet? Kiraan-kiraan isn't going to use his hands, too! He shrugged. It didn't matter. Cause he was gonna race!

He chuckled. "Control yourself, Zeff-san!" Then he wondered: Why would Zephyr be excited about the race? Sure, he was a sword with powers, but did he have anything to do with racing? Again, Kiraan shrugged it off. He got into running position, placing one leg in fron of the other and bending his knees. "Ready... Set.... Go!"

Kiraan smirked. He was moving so fast his toes hardly touched the ground. A huge trail of dust was left behind him. He turned his head a little to see how Tai was doing, though.

Tai giggled as Kiraan bounded off, dashing after him. She was far behind until the strangest thing happened; giant, angelic wings sprouted from her back. She did a somersault, landed on her feet and leapt into the air, her wings tucked behind her back, only the tips open, allowing her a quick, sleek glide that showed no mercy to the fox demon. She then opened her wings, and with a few powerful flaps, gained altitude. Soon, she was keeping up, soaring high above on the updrafts. Her arms were spread wide, as she gleefully flew. She crossed her arms over her chest, closed her wings, tucking them close to her back, and dove, gaining speed rapidly. She quickly passed by Kiraan-chan.

Kiraan gasped as he saw Tai take flight, and then smirked. "So that's what you meant by 'not limited to feet!'" He called up to her, taking a large gasp of air afterward for and extra burst of speed. But he could see all ready that he'd lost. The winds were blowing in the direction of the finish line, therefore Tai was nearly unbeatable at this point.

Not that he'd given up. Kiraan leaned forward so as to be less resistant to the air. He pretty much built for speed, with a sleek form and an angled face. Of course, he was a fox. But, even so, Kiraan knew he wasn't the best runner among demons, so he needed to take advantage of aerodynamics.
