Out of Foolish Curiosity and Boredom

Tai giggled and opened her wings just enough to go into an effortless glide, and she slid along in the gentle breeze that directed her toward the finish. Her wingtips were splayed out, keeping her hovering just above ground. As she flew, she would gradually lose height, but before she got so that she could touch the ground, she thrust open her wings and gave another powerful flap, then another, as she gained height to reach eight feet, before going once more into the arrow-shaped glide.

(Uber short. Sorreh. x.x I just woke up. -yawns-)

Kiraan realized that taking advantage of his aerodynamics wasn't working. So, as a last resort, Kiraan decided he would try a method that another animal used. Cheetahs. They weren't built for long distances. They were prefect for short bursts of speed. They often waited until their prey got tired until they bolted. So, Kiraan decided he would try waiting until the final stretch to go all-out, and that would be when he'd have more energy, too.

He chuckled quietly to himself. He could see it now: "Hey, aren't you Kiraan, the demon that got beat in a race against a girl?" "Sh-she had WINGS, Kiraan swears!" "Hah! Yeah, right!" Kiraan smirked. No, he wasn't one to be humiliated by such things. But it was a funny thought.

Telepathy was such a handy things at the brief moments it clicked on. Tai saw what he was thinking, and her lips were pressed in a hard line as she concentrated. The telepathy cut off just before his funny little episode. She quickly whooshed upward in a straight line, ignoring the race comepletely. When she was a good fifty feet above ground, she was also a good distance behind. She spread her wings and soared, using ten of the fifty feet to gain speed by diving. Then, she glided again, and just managed to pull up behind Kiraan-chan(not exactly behind, about forty feet above), and she gracefully beat her wings a couple times to gain but altitude and speed.

when they entered the final stretch, Tai tucked her wings and dove, almost straight down but with a slight angle so that she kept up. She plummeted like a stone, shooting out of the clouds like a bullet leaping from the barrel of a gun. She crossed her arms over her chest and closed her eyes, before releasing her wings slightly to make her fly straight again, but with the kind of speed that would be missed if you blinked. She opened her eyes and darted forward, trying to reach the finish line, where a small group of people had assembled.

Kiraan took a big breath, and then bolted towards the finish line. A crowd of people were there, Kiraan wondered if it were by coincidence or if they were there to see the results of the race. His legs were moving so quickly that his lower half of his body became a blur. His two fox tails were whipping around behind him, and a cloud of dust followed his trail. But he wouldn't make it. Tai had made a gap of distance between them at the beginning. And now, at the final stretch, he was only nearly caught up.

And then... He tripped. Whoops. Because of his massive amounts of momentum, he flew into a tree. The branch ended his flight. It had hit him in the stomach. Because the rest of his body had still been in motion, however, his arms and legs were stretched out in front of him. Then his body relaxed, and his just hung limply from the branch while his head spun.

OOC- This is one of those moments when Kiraan have spirals for eyes... And the people in the crowd would all do anime-falls...

And sorry for the bad quality of the second paragraph. I'm tired. >_<

Tai was determined to make it to the finish line, and she was just seconds from it, when she saw, out of the corner of her eye, Kiraan hitting a tree. She braked, her wings snapping open just before she crossed the line into the cheering villagers. She whirled, set down, and let her wings evaporate before running on her five-year-old legs to Kiraan.

"Are you okay, Kiraan-kiraan?" She asked in a concerned voice. The gathering at the finish line disappeared as quickly as her wings, disapointed that the race was not to be finished. Zephyr twitched in annoyance at the tie. But as sweet and concerned as Tai was, she ignored him. She watch Kiraan, waiting for him in a lady-like manner.

[Tis 'kay. Happens to the best of us. And this was kinda short. v.v]

"Y-yeah..." He coughed a few times, blinked, and slid off the branch onto the ground. He chuckled. "Well. Kiraan didn't think that would happen... Hahaha- Ow..." He ran his fingers along his ribs. "Hmmm... No broken bones," he thought aloud, "Maybe a little bruising on the stomach area..." He peaked into his kimono to check. "...Make that a lot of bruising. All well. Kiraan is fine. Just bruises."

He yawned. "Well... The crowd left. Heh. Kiraan and Tai must have been making quite a scene. A flying girl and a demon at top-speed! Haha. No wonder they gathered." He glanced at the sky, streaked orange and red. The sun sat lazily on the horizon line. "It's getting late," Kiraan sighed. "Kiraan had fun, today, though, Tai. Kiraan-kiraan'll come and visit sometime! Or you could come visit him. He sleeps in the forest outside the village."

Tai smiled and gave the peace-out sign.

"Well, I'm glad you're okay!" She giggled. "Yeah, we were pretty awesome. I had fun, too!"

Tai gave him a pleasant grin, and Zephyr, in his sheath, glowed a tired blue, a calm blue, that meant he accepted Kiraan. Tai smiled at the dagger, who sheepishly returned to normal, the glow fading away. Tai placed a reassuring hand on the hilt, and looked back to Kiraan, listening intently, before yawning widely.

"I bet I could come visit some time, since I stay here most of the time. Sy-nii-chan and Tek-kun and Kiki-chan travel lots, so they keep me here with the demon slayers. They say that some things they see aren't for me. But they'll be coming back soon; bye-bye!" She said and gave Kiraan a little hung on his leg, since that was all she could reach. Then she waved and dashed off to the inn, where she and her 'family' stayed.
