History
Detailed Personal History:
They say that if a man can steal the feathered dress of a swan maiden while she bathes, she will follow him home and become is faithful wife.
This is similar to what happened to Kara. Having fallen in love with a mortal man from afar, after some time she managed to trick him into taking the clothing therefore giving reason to marry him. The two did truly fall in love, and shortly after Kara bore her mortal husband a son.
The gods knew that Kara had arranged her own marriage, and where greatly angered that the beautiful swan maiden would willingly chose to wed a mere mortal. It was decided that revenge would be taken against her. The plan was to kill her husband and son while Kara left to bathe, and then return her dress to her, forcing her to return from the lands she came from. And so the messenger, an Akuma, was sent.
The plot did not work exactly as planned though-- when the demon came with his flaming sword to kill her family, Kara heard her infant son's cries and came running back to their little hut. When she saw what was about to happen, she threw herself in front of her family, pleading for their lives, offering hers instead. But killing Kara was not what the gods had intended, so all their lives were spared... There was a catch though. In exchange for her families' lives, Kara would be sent away. For a thousand moonsets, she would have to sail the seas alone on a small vessel, with no contact whatsoever to her family. She accepted this offer, and left to fulfill her sentence, waiting for the day she would be able to see her husband and son again.
Finally, the day of the thousandth moonset came, and Kara prayed to be set free. Unfortunately, when that time came, Izanagi denied his promise, refusing to set the swan maiden free. Amateratsu the son goddess took pity on her though, and made it so that she may see everything that happened in the lands, past, present, and future, though she could not step foot off her ship. So Kara watched helplessly as old age claimed her family, their descendants, and so on until her family bloodline was nearly gone, still untouched by age or time.
They say on days when the moon is full and you look out to the sea, you may see the phantom ship sailing ever onward, or hear the lonely song of the swan maiden. They also say that if you can ever reach and board the ship, the wise Kara may reward you by answering your questions or giving you a glimpse of what has passed or what has yet to come.
