General Information
Name:
Nazoshiki Moriana
Nickname:
Nazo
Age:
22
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Race:
Half Kitsune-Half human
Profession:
Wandering Astrological Exorcist/ Onmyodo Sorcerer
Personality
One Word to Describe Your Character:
Capricious
Likes:
Anything pertaining to the heavens, the quiet of the forest, and humans, which he finds incredibly interesting, that is, anyone living outside of the royal court, who he grew tired of quite quickly. Updating his Astrological charts, whether they are the more common Chinese ones, the few but growing Japanese ones, or the rare and mysterious western charts he acquired from his master. He also loves to stargaze. He enjoys studying anything pertaining to celestial beings.
Dislikes:
Oppression, and needless death and destruction. He harbors a great hatred towards the emperor and his court in the capital for the death of his master and their seeming disregard for anyone not close enough to the capital, or anyone else below the level of nobility. He also holds a great dislike for most demons, save for Kitsune.
Strengths:
Enhanced senses, due to his Kitsune blood.
Elemental control and familiar summoning-From his paper scrolls, he prepares them before hand with the particular writing or depiction.
Sealing techniques- He can seal minor demons, evil, or anything not beyond his own strength (less he has help or it would be fatal) in objects, onto scrolls, or anything that may come to mind.
Skilled with his staff and fan- Since leaving the royal court he had to learn how to protect himself, thankfully he already knew how to wield a staff. He later learned how to use his bladed fan, which he “inherited” from his deceased master.
Basic Kitsune Illusory powers- He actually only rarely uses these, only if he deems it necessary.
Weaknesses:
Stands out quite easily- His crimson hair draw quite a crowd, even when wearing his beads to seal his ears and tail. As well as his left golden eye. This changes, of course, during his night of weakness under the crescent moon. Though, his golden left eye remains the same.
His spells have to be pre-prepared on parchment. If he ever ran out, he would have to rely on his staff and fan to fight back. The only other technique would be his sealing arts.
In order to seal something he has to have something to seal it in, and he most focus on that one thing, making it hard if he wanted to, say, seal something in a tree because he had nothing else but he was standing in the middle of a forest. This would take all of his concentration, which sealing usually does anyway. It also consumes a large amount of his strength. It could potentially kill him if he attempts or completes a sealing that was too much for him without assistance.
He goes from interest to interest; sometimes becoming so intrigued by someone that he trusts them to a fault. This has got him into some very sticky situations, so to speak.
Side:
Good
Detailed Personality Description:
Nazo, unlike most half demons, doesn’t possess any animosity towards humans, despite being raised by his Kitsune mother and warned many times about getting too close to them. He feels as if he is drawn to them, and as a result when he meets most humans he is friendly, outgoing, and most of all, highly inquisitive. He has gotten himself into many bad or dangerous situations just for saying the wrong thing or asking too many questions. Due to his drifter status he never has had any permanent friends, though when traveling he has the tendency to get sidetracked while trying to help others.
When meeting demons his personality differs greatly. He eyes them with distrust, waiting for the slightest move against him. Though he does recognize that there are good demons as well as bad demons he always seems to be waiting for the attack that sometimes never comes. The one type of demon that is excluded from this are the Kitsune, his own kind. He speaks to them as he would a sibling, rather than a friend or ally. It is possible for a demon of any other kind to gain his trust, but not very quickly and definitely not easily.
Appearance
Image:
His human and Kitsune forms.
Most of the time Nazo looks like an average human, save for his golden left eye and unusual crimson hair. When his true appearance is unsealed, he resembles more closely the tradition depiction of a Kitsune in human form. In this form he has a more pointed and defined fox-like, yet human face. He would also possess a tail as well and furry ears, both the same color as his hair though they are a lighter shade. A few scars along his chest and belly are evidence of a near deadly attempt on his life, a poison which nearly killed him, though it did not succeed it was strong enough to weaken his natural healing capabilities to cause scarring from the wounds in which it entered his body. As for a human form as most half demons have, the only different thing about his appearance during his night of weakness is his hair turns a raven black, like that of his father’s his ears and tail disappear yet his golden eye always remains. The time during which he becomes a human is under the crescent moon, during the waxing cycle of the moon.
When speaking of his clothes, one could say that it would quite easy to find him in a crowd. His clothes are of a vibrant combination of red, black, and white. While his garments would speak somewhat of nobility or a connection with the upper class it is only due to who took him on as an apprentice. He has been trained, however, to carry himself as if he were a noble, though, that kind of treatment is what made him glad to leave the capital and begin his own life. He wears a necklace of prayer beards to seal his Kitsune attributes, though, as mentioned before and quite unfortunately, his other unusual traits still appear. He wears one if his weapons, a fan with retracting hidden blades, at his right side. He is never seen without his pack hanging from his shoulder, carrying all of his various star charts, parchment and ink for spells, and other supplies inside. He also carries a staff of his own carved with various astrological symbols he had seen during his training. Another pack is at his left side, carrying already completed spell scrolls for his immediate use.
Overall Description:
History
Detailed Personal History:
Nazo was born as many who carry the blood of the Kitsune are, by the union of a human and a Kitsune. As for how his parents met, it is said that he was enchanted by her beauty, now whether that was the result of his mother’s Kitsune powers of illusion and enticement or pure attraction no one can say, for at one time they were indeed in love. However, his father found out, as many do, that she was not human. It was a few days after he was born. His mother tried every thing she could to hide his appearance before his father was allowed to see him, though nothing seemed to work on him.
He resembled his father physically, save for his fox-like features. Though, unlike many stories of this kind, the mother did not flee. In this tale however, she was cast out, along with her son, given only a meager supply of food and water to take her wherever she would go. His mother did feel sadness for her broken heart and lost home, though she could more than fend for herself and her child alone. He was around the age of 15 when his mother left this world. She was killed by demons, though which kind he can not be sure.
Lucky for him he ran into a kind soul, an exorcist in service to the royal court in the capital (don’t remember which century this is so it could be Kyoto or Edo) who recognized him for what he was immediately. Instead of destroying him then and there, as most of his profession would, he saved him, quickly having him don the necklace he wears to this day, concealing his true appearance; though his hair and one golden eye never did disappear it was better than people seeing his ears and tail as well. He spent the next long years as this man’s apprentice, learning various forms of astrology as well as the different methods of exorcism using this knowledge.
The art was similar to Chinese Geomancy or what one would think of Japanese Onmyodo. The majority of the spells he learned had to be pre-prepared on scrolls or scraps of parchment with ink or sometimes blood. These mostly consisted of control over the elements; sometimes they summoned or created familiar spirits to aid the user as well. He was also instructed in the art of sealing, from sealing a demon directly to sealing a specific room or object in which something was trapped so as to keep a demon from escaping if it was too strong to be exorcised or completely destroyed. These were based upon a specific planet, star, or constellation that corresponded to the demon’s elemental power or nature.
Although Nazo saw his master as father and held a great affection for him life in the capital had begun to take its toll on him. He was the apprentice of a member of the court; therefore he was considered nobility as well. As a result he was assigned a tutor and also taught the various customs of the so called noble class. This annoyed him greatly. All he ever wished was to be taught more by his master. Though Nazo endured, it was only for the sake of his teacher. He grew to be a great exorcist as well then, his political views shifted from complacency to disgust at the blind eye the nobles had when it came to protection of the masses as well as the misfortune and needless suffering of people too far away from the capital for the nobles to even take notice.
There came a time that a demon ravaged the capital, having already decimated the forces that stood in its path of destruction. Attempts to dispatch this demon by any means proved entirely useless. The next option was to seal it up. Nazo’s master then made a decision which would be fatal, he would seal the demon within a jewel, as he had heard in legends past it had been done before. However, for this task he would require the help of other human beings, lest this attempt prove fatal or possibly rendered useless. The help never came, however, and rather than seal the demon entirely, it only stole away a portion of its strength, killing his master in the process.
The others who were supposed to render aid, members of the ruling class, were found later to have been cowering, frightened for their own lives. The demon reached the emperor then, though Nazo stood in its way, his mind clouded by anger. A great power rushed forth from him then, and instead of sealing the now weakened demon he completely destroyed it. That night he was seen striding out of the capital with his belongings. There are still rumors, that although it was a night of mist and smoke from the fires that had been raging, that people saw not a human leave, but a Kitsune.
