Lately I have been a big fan of Japanese food. Probably because a friend recommended this comic book series called Kitchen Princess, and that got me started in Japanese style deserts. Than she took me to an authentic sushi restaurant, and treated me to all the different kinds. It was really good! Lol since then I have been obsessed, and have been trying all different kinds.
For the past couple mornings I have been eating Miso soup and rice, which is not only healthy, but really tasty too.
I also really like anything cooked nabemono style, or just nabe. In other words, it's just food cooked in a hotpot. I especially enjoy sukiyaki, which includes beef, tofu, and vegetables. If you want to try it though, make sure you use really fresh eggs, since eating older raw eggs isn't good for you.
I've been meaning to try okonomiyaki, but I have been putting it off because I'm wary about cooking it. It's a lot more difficult than I thought it would be... It makes me wish that the place I live has actual Japanese restaurants, instead of just sushi places. ^ 0 ^
For desert I have been trying a lot of Japanese style sweets, like dango and castella. For a healthier alternative I have also tried eating agar, which when made correctly can be really tasty. It's a gelatin powder or crystals, that are made out of seaweed. It's really good for your skin and hair, and it has virtually no calories -- all good things for girls watching their weight. ^ 0 ^ If you make it using fruit juice instead of water it tastes really good!
I like to make it in a square cake pan using about 3 cups of juice (3 tablespoons agar agar). I refrigerate it for about an hour and a half, and then slice into small squares. You can add in fresh fruit, or put whipped cream on top to make it fancier as well.
What Japanese food do you like? Or what food do you really want to try?

Onigiri/rice balls. Most def. I've been trying to get a hold of the ingredients for eons, but nowhere around me sells dried nori. I mean, duh, it's Wisconsin... I know I could substitute it w/ rice paper, soy wraps or spinach leaves, but, keh, I guess I'm just too lazy. =P

Beef sukiyaki is love <3 As is miso soup. There's a few really good hibachi places around here [Jiani, Edo, Fuji Mountain] that I absolutely adore. Sushi I'm not so big on, since I don't really love fish, but I do eat it on occasion... Japanese style grilled shrimp with ginger sauce is really good though.
Ramune soda is also amazing-- especially the melon flavored kind-- as are the hard ramune candy xP
And how can we forget pocky? <3 There an Asian market about an hour away, where I get all my candy and drinks =P And real Japanese Sakura Green Tea is really good-- very sweet [for green tea], and very flavorful.

Yay for Pocky! <3 I always try and keep a box in my cupboard just in case of emergencies. I.e. late night studying or desperate need for chocolate. <3
Oh, and the Sakura Green Tea reminded me of this article I saw a while ago.
