First, the rules of the Cage Match.
1: Only the two opponents are involved. That means no allies, hostages, etc.
2: Fictional characters only.
3: Keep politics and religion out of this.
4: Only characters who have a definite set of powers. This means that playable characters from RPGs are right out, as their abilities can vary drastically from one player to the next.
I will be taking suggestions for future Cage matches. Post them here if you have an idea. Otherwise, just debate the one we have now.
Now, our Contestants:
Inuyasha: You should know this guy already. Seriously.
Nightmare: One of the major villains from the Soul Calibur series of fighting games. For simplicity's sake, let's assume that this is the version from the 3rd or 4th game, after he has shed his human aspect. Nightmare is the humanoid form of the demonic sword Soul Edge, after it posessed the armor of its former human host.
Appearance
Abilities
Soul Drain: Not as deadly as it sounds. Picks them up with the claw hand and drains out a small portion of their soul.
Soul Wave: A small shockwave that makes him stronger for a short time. This move is exponentially more powerful in the cutscenes than it is in actual gameplay.
Critical Finish: Ouch.
Besides that, he relies on strength and skill.
Debate away.
My thoughts
At a range, Inuyasha would have a definite advantage. With the various forms of the Wind Scar, and his little Blades of Blood trick, he has a wide array of powerful long-range moves that Nightmare can never hope to match. Nightmare's only ranged attack, the Soul Wave, is limited to a couple yards in gameplay, and even in the cinematics it's just a big wind by the time you're a hundred feet away. Of course, this is assuming that Inuyasha has the brains to stay far away.
If things get in close, it's as good as over. While the two use similar weapons and are roughly equal in brute strength, Nightmare is by far the superior technical fighter. The move list up above doesn't cover the various sword moves he does, and the list takes up 4-5 pages in the strategy guide. Inuyasha's close combat style can best be described as "Rabid Lumberjack:" just chop at it wildly until it falls down.
