It was cold outside, due to the season. Early spring was always very beautiful to the immortal priestess, but the cold temperatures and ever-changing weather she could easily do without. She had never been a big fan of cold weather, and the thin layer of snow on the ground from the snowfall the day before was only proving to hamper her spirits.

Yuna stopped walking for a moment to get her bearings and decide what her next course of action should be. She had been so busy lately. She had been traveling non-stop for months, until she had finally reached a human village where over half of the population had managed to come down with a dreadful illness. She had only planned on passing through, but her good nature had gotten the better of her, and she ended up staying a month. Luckily by the time she left almost all of the villagers were well, and the ones who weren't were on a quick path to recovery. Thankfully none had passed, save those who had died before she arrived in the village.

And just earlier this very same day she had managed to come across a demon about to maul a young girl to death for food. Saving the girl had not proved to be easy, for the demon was stronger than she had first believed. Gazing down at her left arm she sighed softly. It was bandaged tightly underneath her miko garb, but the faint stain of red could still be seen.

It was her own fault though, for being so careless as to underestimate the inoshishi youkai. She had forgotten that inoshishi were prone to great strength during their mating season, which corresponded with this time. At least that wound had not been too great. Yuna smiled ever-so-slightly. Now here she was rationalizing about an injury. The miko was definitely not at her best today to be sure.

All the same... she should probably wash her wound. Even with her healing powers, if she did not clean the wound, it might become infected. And she could not afford to lose an arm. What she needed was to find a spring of some kind in order to bathe. She could probably use the bath as well. She knew that she was covered in dry sweat, as well as blood from her own wound, as well as that of the youkai. But... were there any springs around these parts?

As she thought her two front teeth sunk themselves into her lower lip, a habit she had never been able to shake herself of. Yes... she seemed to remember that the last time she had come through these parts there had been a small spring perfect for bathing located somewhere in this forest. Raising her head the gray eyed woman wondered, "Now... if memory serves... it should be..." She paused to think for another moment before smiling. "This way!"

Heading off to the right Yuna's smile grew with the anticipation of a nice bath. Despite the cold weather and the snow, a bath would be pleasant. An onsen would be better, but... a normal cool one would do all the same. A nice, peaceful, quiet... As the miko entered the clearing where the spring was her thoughts came to a grinding halt. There was already someone bathing in the spring. A very naked, female someone. A flush came to her cheeks. Bowing her head quickly she sputtered, "Sumimasen! I-I didn't know s-someone was already here! Forgive me."

Tsu started to wade her way forward,
pleased now more than even that demons
healed a lot better than humans-- with her
upper half exposed, it was nice not looking
like a mortal mother, with their stretch marks
and sagging skin-- looking at her, as with
all youkai, you wouldn't be able to tell.
Of course, knowing her luck, she'd get
to surprise the priestess when the rest
of the crew-- Yukiko, Kouga, Seilu,
Athos, Porthos and Aramis-- showed
up. They always showed eventually.
Usually at the most inopportune of
moments.

Her thoughts drifted momentarily to
her mate and pups... it worried her a
little, leaving them with Kouga--
he would never intentionally do
anything to put them in danger,
of course-- but the guy was
kinda a magnet for misfortune.
I mean, his last pack did get
totally wiped out. Then a bunch
more because of him... not that
they were really his fault, per se.
There was just a lot of people
out to get him.

Then there was also the fact that
the kids were quite a handful--
the lot of them with powers of some
sort, and all of them with their
parents strong will and
relatively ill tempers. The pups
were all asleep when she left though,
and for his sake she hoped they stayed
that way... otherwise she'd have to
hear about it later, how she abandoned
him and all that crap. Like she didn't
take care of them enough on her own.

Regardless, Yuna was her main concern
right now. Again, having not parted
on such great terms, she wasn't
sure how the miko would react... if
she even remembered her, anyway.
Tsuzuki was pretty sure she would
though-- she was, quite honestly, a
hard one to forget.

Yuna froze, her entire body stiffening. The woman... knew her? And that voice was hauntingly familiar. Risking a quick glance up she let her eyes sweep over the ookami youkai. It was her, that demon that she had met back when she was still with Naraku and Asuma was but a young, innocent child. Tsuzuki.

A quick burst of pain shot through her heart at the thought of her son, turned evil by his father, corrupted from the sweet boy she had once known. And she had abandoned him, leaving him in that monster's care. She still felt the guilt from that decision almost a year later, but she had had no other options at the time. She could not stay with that hanyou any longer than she already had.

Mentally shaking her head to ward off the bad memories the miko straightened, her eyes narrowed. "Tsuzuki-san," she greeted, voice cool. "I assume you are well?" The last bit was something that she knew could easily have been left off, had her upbringing not dictated that she be polite, even to a demon that she was not friendly with.

Though that itself was an extreme understatement. They had fought the last time they had met, although not with actual weapons. And they had parted on equally bad terms. So now that she was standing like this near the yourouzoku was awkward at best. Not to mention the demon's apparel--or more accurately, lack there of.

Yuna knew of course that demons were not nearly so modest as humans, after having lived among them for as long as she had back when she was mated with Jiro. Ugh... another thrust to the heart. But even so, she was still a human, despite that. She would always believe in keeping herself in proper attire -- or at the very least some clothing -- while in the presence of others.

And yet... for some reason, despite her own better judgement, her eyes kept lowering themselves from the yourouzoku's face to her body. It was actually a very nice body, she noted. Almost perfect in fact. So unlike her own. Although she had a thin figure, her breasts were beginning to sag just a bit after having three children during her life. And her hips had also filled out some after childbirth. Jiro had once said that it just made her more attractive, but at times she wished that she had her old body back.

Realizing that she was still staring she blushed, moving her eyes from the demon to the ground, a much safer thing to look at. Her cheeks were burning bright red from her embarrassment. Here she was envying a demon for having a better body than herself. What was she thinking? There was no answer, or at least no answer that came to her, so she thought it best to pretend like the whole thing hadn't happened at all. Yes, that seemed like a good idea. ...sort of, anyway.

All of a sudden a thought came to her. "Ano... about the last time we met... I remember that you were particularly mad about my relations with Naraku." She hesitated, not sure if she should really be saying this. But in the end, she decided that what harm would it do? Neither of them liked the hanyou, so what did it matter if she insulted him or not? "I am no longer in any contact with that bastard."

The grin on her face
was one of definite
malice, and she couldn't
help herself from
putting her hands on
her hips to accentuate
the point-- or from lazily
curling and uncurling her tail
from around her leg.

Her eyebrow arched in
a cocky sort of way, but
the mention of Naraku's
name wiped the smirk
right off her face. Of
course, the one shot
they might have at
getting some information
on the damn hanyou's
whereabouts, and their
information source was
no longer involved with him.
Damn perfect time for the
miko to decide to get her
priorities straight.

Still, it meant that she might
not have to kill her yet... and
despite disliking mortals as a
general rule, Tsuzuki really didn't
feel like having to kill the priestess.
There was something about her
that made Zuki respect her, and
there was a severe lack of respectable--
or powerful-- mortals in this place.
For a species that was horrible on the
whole, Yuna wasn't so bad.

Maybe even better-- maybe the hanyou
did something to her that would put her
on their side. Another enemy of his, who
might have some very valuable information
on him... though she figured that if she knew
anything too important, he would most likely
just kill her... unless she was running from him?
Was she more powerful than he was? She then
started to wonder why Yuna would have left
him anyway... Had he done something to her?
Found another woman, taken a lover? Among
her people, that was one of the worst offenses
none could commit-- wolves mated for life, and
it was as simple as that. You mated with one
demon and with one demon only, and you
were to spend the rest of eternity with them.
It had been this basic idea that had kept
Tsu with Kouga right after the initial incident,
before she even knew there were going to be
pups involved, because while she didn't agree
with all the tribe laws, she believed that one
was right. Kouga's parents, on the other hand,
had different ideas apparently... disgraceful,
was what it was. She could almost see why
Granny hated them so much.

Of course though, she was
just speculating... but as
usual, curiostiy got the better
of her, and she wasn't above
asking near complete strangers
personal questions... growing up
where she did, with demon senses,
you usually didn't have to ask.

With a polite if not somewhat forced
laugh, Tsuzuki gave Yuna her most
charming fake smile, and batted her
eyelashes a little.
"Ah, well I'm glad to hear that Yuna-
san. May I ask what happened for
you to harbor such harsh feelings
towards your former mate?"
Followed by a pout.
"Finally saw the monster for what he was?"

Was that a snicker? It was, she was quite sure of that. The priestess narrowed her eyes slightly into a glare. Was the demoness making fun of her simply for her modesty? That was absurd! It wasn't that funny of a thing. Taking a deep breath Yuna mentally calmed herself, forcing her anger back down. There was no need to be angry; after all, that wasn't going to help the situation at all.

Besides, she was supposed to be a miko, who were most commonly known for their non-violent behavior and calm natures. That was a laugh though. Few were actually like that anymore. Perhaps when she was younger, but now? Now they focused on killing demons, if they even had the power for that kind of thing.

At the yourouzoku's next words a small smile came unbidden to Yuna's lips. Joking now? This was all becoming quite strange indeed. "I would worry as well," she replied, voice hinting at her amusement. "I may have been alive for hundreds of years, but in all my time I have never heard of a ningen, even an immortal one, growing a tail. I would think that if I did have one, some great evil has taken place."

Her amusement was shortlived however, and she wished that she had never brought Naraku up to begin with. How foolish she was, bringing up the name of a hated enemy. At least now it was a mutual hatred. At least now she didn't harbor any feelings for the hanyou whatsoever. But... to explain her reasons to another... what motive would she have for doing so? Why would another even care? But she supposed that she owed Tsuzuki an answer, even if she doubted it would do much good in the long run.

With a sigh Yuna rubbed her temples, fighting off tiredness. She winced slightly when her wound protested, reminding her of the reason why she had searched for this spring in the first place. "Ano... well, I suppose I should first tell you why I was with him in the first place. Years ago while I was paying him a visit, to try and stop him from attacking a village, a young demon materialized out of thin air in front of the two of us. He claimed that he was our son from the future, here to get us to reconcile our differences."

Here she smiled sadly. "I'm not sure why... perhaps out of sadness, or loneliness... or out of remaining grief from not saving my firstborn, I believed him. And... Naraku and I slept together. It was not out of love, but out of sheer need, I suppose. Nine months later, Asuma was born. Before his birth his father was killed, or at least that was what I believed. The truth is that Naraku was just in hiding, until Asuma was old enough to be trained. I tried to stop Naraku from taking him, but I wasn't powerful enough. You may remember, but my powers were weakened severely at our last meeting. It was around this time that I relented, and agreed for Asuma to be trained, with the condition that I remained nearby."

Her smile grew cold, and her eyes blazed with more hatred. "As the years past I learned more and more of Naraku's evil influence. But in my weakened state I was powerless to stop him. We slept together once more, and another was born, a girl this time. But one day she was attacked, and Naraku told me she died. He lied to me, I later learned. She is now a young demon slayer." Yuna chuckled faintly. "Ironic, isn't it? The daughter of Naraku growing up to be a demon slayer among humans? Anyway, I also learned that Naraku had bedded another, a demoness by the name of Akina. They also had a son, who was promising to be just like Naraku."

"I feared what would happen if either him, or Asuma, were to replace Naraku. And... I left. I went to visit a village that was once my home, but has long since been destroyed. There I came to my senses as I stood above the grave of my former mate and one true love, as well as the grave of our son." Tears welled in her eyes but she refused to let them fall. Blinking them back she pressed on, "When I returned I told Naraku that I was leaving for good, and that if he came looking I would kill him. I had finally realized that there was no reason for my staying with him. It was not as though it was doing anyone any good."

Yuna smiled once more, the same sad smile. "Besides... I have always loved, and will always love, only one man... my one true mate, even though he is gone now." Shaking her head she shrugged. "Gomen. I did not mean to take up so much of your time."

[/i][/color] Then, the familiar sounds of a small, hungry, and waking army reached his ears, and the male yourouzoku joined in the groaning. Damnit, I dun wanna.[/color] Resisting the urge to whine and act like his pups, Kouga slowly, and rather clumsily picked himself up from the ground and through half open eyes glared at his kids.

"Rawr!" He growled playfully, diving into the center group and letting his face sink into the dew soaked grass as three of the pups clamored over him. A moment later his tail was being pulled and he was growling a little deeper. "Hey hey! Watch it you!" Considering he was confused as to which triplet was which, he constantly referred to each of them as "you", and called Seilu his little angel.

[She was really his favorite.]

Grabbing the ones closest to his arms, Kouga stood up, dragging both boys with him and hefting them over his shoulders. On the left he was staring into the eyes of the one trying to bite his ear, and on the right he was staring at the tail end of the one, still, pulling his tail.

"I feel this is only going to get worse." As if in agreement, the third pup attached himself to Kouga's leg and yanked at the bottom of his skirt. "Food, daddy!" Oh yeah, gotta feed the little brats. Rolling his eyes and turning around to try and find Seilu, Kouga nodded his head. "Yeah, yeah. Let's go find mommy, Maybe she has something for you." He smiled when he spotted Seilu, and limping towards her with all three boys clinging to him, he wondered just where Zuki was.

And something, deep, deeep, deeeeep, inside him, told him something was wrong.
Horribly.

Tsuzuki muttered to herself, crossing
her arms and glaring off to one side--
at nobody or anything in particular,
just thinking. She certainly knew
what it was like to end up back in
bed with someone for reasons other
than love... or at least, what she thought
had been reasons other than love.
Unlike Yuna, however, things had
worked out for the better in her case.

To be honest, she almost felt
bad for the priestess-- she never
knew that she had a mate before,
and even though it was something
unheard of among her people, having
a mate of her own made her realize
how horrible that must be. Thinking
about it, she didn't even know if she
could be that strong, to move on... or
at least try to... as Yuna did. Losing
Kouga... would send her right back to
where she started, only with real
emotional issues this time... not
just the pretend ones. Even when
she tried to stay independent of him,
when she went off on her own and
looked for excuses to be mad at him,
he was still always there.

And losing a son too... well, she had three
to worry about. And two daughters.
Maybe more, soon?
But as horrible as it sounds, she had to admit...
they could always make more pups. But
her mate was irreplaceable.

The sound of Akina's, name, however,
brought back more memories... and all
of them bad. She hated that demoness
with an unholy passion, along with the
rest of her crew. That Kiloto one in
particular. So she was bedding Naraku
now, eh? All the more reason to rip that
supposedly 'pretty' little head off her
shoulders and shut her up for good.

She nodded her head as Yuna spoke,
as she was actually listening-- not
just standing there waiting for a
good spot to deliver a witty line...
she had more in common with
the miko than she ever would have
thought possible.

"You haven't wasted my time, mik--
Yuna-san. Odd is it may seem...
I cannot say I know what you've gone
through, but I can identify with at least
some of it. A lot has changed since our
last encounter... obviously, as neither
of us is trying to off the other at the
moment, and if you're trying to kill
me you're doing an awful good job
of hiding it."
Yuna definitely seemed genuine
though... there were real tears
in the corners of her eyes,
and for a wolf demon
reading body language
came second nature... the
priestess wasn't faking anything.
Yuna had never struck her as the
type to lie anyway, or try to
sneak around at all-- she was
honorable, if nothing else.
"Anyway, I..."
Was she honestly about to do
this? Start talking to a miko,
an old enemy even, about her
personal life? She could just
try and kill her now and save
herself the possible trouble later.
But something about the woman
compelled Tsuzuki to talk. Or
maybe she just was getting soft...
but not as soft as her human-loving,
almost sorry excuse for a demon mate.
But he made up for it in other ways...

"I have a mate now too, and pups of
my own. And I know what you mean
when you speak of their only being
one, true male for you. I truly am
sorry that you have lost yours."

She could almost smell her Kouga now,
and... wait. She did smell him. His
scent, along with those of the pups, were
heavy on the early March breeze, and she
could sense his yoki moving toward them.
Oh great... of course. It's like
he has some sort of freakin' seventh sense. I
don't even have to mention him by name and
he shows up...

She loved him, yeah. Didn't mean she wanted
Yuna to meet him, per se. Why rub
it in her face that her mate was dead
and her children were either dead or
evil, while she had... a screw up of
an alpha who got his entire tribe
killed, and a collection of pups
with assorted strange and dangerous
powers... not exactly the 'perfect'
family, but hell, she'd rather them
than be some normal bitch with a
no-ranked mate living in a pack
somewhere in the mountains. Or
still wandering around with Yukiko,
utterly lost and searching for shikon
shards.

Scenting the air once more, she gave the
priestess a small smirk-smile.
"And I think you may be meeting them
rather soon, actually."

Yuna smiled warmly, her eyes misty. "Sou ka? That is wonderful. May I offer my congratulations." A part of her did feel sad that the yourouzoku had a mate and pups while she herself no longer did, but a larger part was truly happy for Tsuzuki. No one deserved to be alone for any length of time, so it was truly a happy thing that she had managed to make herself such a happy family. Not that the miko knew for sure if it was a happy family or not, but from the way that Tsuzuki spoke, she could easily assume that it was indeed so.

Her smile changed into an amused one. "I am happy indeed that we are not at each other's throats any longer. That would be relatively pointless and immature, ne?" She laughed softly, one of her small hands coming up to her lips. "I must say, I am much happier with it like this."

Yuna surveyed Tsuzuki silently for a moment or two. It was in a miko's nature to hate all demons to the point where as soon as she should meet one, she should desire it dead. However, she herself had not felt that way about a specific demon in some time. Except Naraku, of course. Other than him she never hated a demon right off the bat. It took actual time for her to develop those feelings. Which she supposed was both a good thing, and a bad thing. It could cause problems, if the youkai tried to kill her while she was still making up her mind.

She mentally smirked. Not that that had happened in some time. Ever since she left Naraku she had been helping villages that were being plagued and terrorized by youkai. Those demons hadn't been given an option when she met them. She had met them without hatred, but with the exact purpose to kill them.

She was soon drawn out of her thoughts when Tsuzuki spoke again. Raising an eyebrow she asked, "Are you sure?" Yuna blinked, than giggled. "Gomennasai. Of course you would be sure. I don't know where my head is right now." Yes she did. Her head was clouded by the mild pain from the wound on her arm. Not that she could really deal with that now. Not if the yourouzoku's mate was coming. That would be entirely improper to be bathing when he arrived. Plus, what had Tsuzuki said? She had said 'they'. That could mean that her pups were coming as well.

Taking a few steps toward the water she knelt down by the spring, took out a small cloth from her bag, and dipped it in the cool water. With her other hand she pulled her haori down just enough so she could reach her wound. After removing the makeshift bandage she placed the cloth to the clotting injury, hissing when it made contact. Kami that was cold. But it needed to be done so she could heal it. She repeated the process of dipping the rag into the water and placing it on her wound once more when a thought came to her.

Lifting her gaze from the wound she turned her attention back to Tsuzuki. "Ano... if you do not mind my asking, who exactly is your mate?" She smirked lightly. "Although I suppose that I could always simply wait and see."
