The sprites were the 5 children of two guardians of flowing waters: Asua Watari and Hikate Watari. Both were not immortal, but lived a very long life span. Around the age of 3, the sprites were separated from their parents in a war. The demigods, who were in the midst of it all, perished, but just before, used what power they had to send their children to 5 locations of Feudal Japan. There, the children fended for themselves, and found homes of their own.

Okay, How they find out that they’re all sisters and they have magical powers is that they come across a scroll that Koi found in the Archives of her Temple. It was about that ancient war when they were little, and now they all know about their parents. Then, their powers begin to appear, first when Koi starts moving things with her mind; then, when Sui is alone and bored and starts talking to the lobster on her plate; when Aoi heals her pimple; when Mei moves the water around; and when Umi looks into the water and suddenly she knew several economic tricks. Yet, despite these awkward miracles, they still need some getting used to each other. Also, the explanation for their age is that they've been wandering for a long time, practicing and experimenting with their powers.

Aoi is the perky/jumpy/hyper one of the quintuplets. She's flirtatious, and more like the "dumb-blonde" type. She's sensitive, but won't cry. When mad, she packs a punch. Aoi naturally attracts attention (& trouble) to herself, and enjoys it as much as she can. She is completely honest and true to her sisters and friends, and will let everyone know when she doesn't like an idea, or when she just wants to emphasize her thoughts. She isn't completely stupid, nor is she smart, either. She just happens to be in her own little world when her other sisters are busy fighting about something. Aoi can be a brat, since she prefers her own way of doing things, and will often yell at a distracting person if she can't get her way. She is the youngest, and knows that she can get away with a few things, but not everything. She can also be quite full of herself, so when she starts talking about herself endlessly, it's almost impossible to shut her up.

Aoi was taken in by a large family of seven (mother, father, three boys, and two girls), and while she was still there, Aoi skipped around in the village, being as much of an adorable little girl as she could. Naturally, she attracted attention to herself, and was the most popular girl around. The foster family shunned her, and they kicked her out so that she could be sent to the Temple of the North. Aoi threw a fit, and said that she didn’t care. So, she packed her bags and left without so much as a “thank you.”

When Aoi arrived at the Northern Temple, the beginning of her first week of priestess training was harsh. She flunked in all of her studies, and misbehaved and goofed off anywhere she went. However, the few girls that were there liked the fact that she stood out among them. Aoi soon became friends with them all, and they taught her to be more serious about her studies if she was going to stay. Complying, and as the days trudged on, Aoi got the hang of the daily routine: cleaning, washing, study, clean, pray, study, pray. She really hated it. However, Aoi soon became extremely interested in medicines, and so she snuck away in the middle of the night to enter the library, and then pay a visit to the infirmary wing. There, she chose several books from both places and took them with her to her room. On her own, she was learning about different medicines and poultices that could be used from the sea's resources. This is why she is the one with the most healing power.

Later on in her life, she left the temple and ran off towards the center of Feudal Japan, where Koi worked. What caused her to go there was more like gut instinct, and in following that feeling she not only met Koi, but she met her other sisters.

Detailed Personality Description:

Koi happens to be the most subtle of the five, even more so than Umi. Koi likes to kick back, relax, and enjoy the peace and quiet...or not so much. Her sisters are far too loud for her to bear, and so she prefers to go out walking during the dusk to a nice, quiet spot. She is more of a loner and likes to be superstitious. Koi believes in omens, and likes to reminiss upon her younger days, thinking about life. And then again, she is partially emo-ish, so she wanders off whenever she gets the chance. She can be angsty when her sisters are around but most of the time she is silent, staring at the two eldest siblings quarrel each day. Koi is basically the only one who can put these two in their places and shut them up without exerting much effort.

Detailed Personal History:

In contrast to her other sisters’ foster families, Koi had only followed in the footsteps of gypsies in the beginning. At a young age, Koi learned to dance, and look into a crystal ball. She learned every trick. To her, magic was not real at all. In any case, she thought of the gypsies as temporary family, since she had plans of her own other than stealing, lying, and pulling off scams. That’s why she planned very carefully to leave the camp, and frolic into the direction of a temple, and learned the ways of a priestess.

In the center of Japan, Koi wasn't working with as much water as her other sisters were,--this accounts for her weak power--so, instead, she was mainly the silent outcast of the group of priestesses-in-training. Since nobody really paid any attention to her, she wandered off, praying and doing her daily chores. Koi would hang out in the gardens, thinking about the little things in life. Often splashing through the water with a quaint smile, and here and there pull of pranks on other people when she was bored. She was never found out, though, since nobody really cared for her. She entertained her self by going to the gardens, or climbing upon the rooftops of the sanctuaries and such. But what she liked to do the most when she was alone at night, she’d sneak away from her bedroom and climb up to the roof, leaning back and staring at the stars. Koi would most often keep a map of the celestial bodies and zodiac symbols and myths—which she’d steal from the Archives of the buildings—and Koi would also take out books about spells, and seals. Questioning whether her previous thoughts about magic were dead-wrong. But at times, when she slept, she often had visions of what was to come, and what has happened. This is why she was the first to know of her other sisters, and why she waited patiently for their coming.

Detailed Personality Description:

OK, Sui is the one who most likely resembles a hippocryte. She criticizes her other sisters, and tends to do an even worse job of keeping them all in check. When she yells, it's mainly about the littlest things, and Umi sometimes storms off because of her bitchin'. On the other hand, Mei tries to put Sui back in her place, as the second eldest, but Sui won't have it. Instead, she is more likely to get them all into trouble because of her insanely loud rants/arguments. Sui likes to pick on Koi and Umi, because they apparently aren't as "good of a leader" as she is. Mei will often tackle her, and cover her mouth but this always leads to a fight.

History

Detailed Personal History:

Sui grew up in a harsher, more competitive world. In fact, she was sent to the eastern shores of Japan. Her outlook on life and they way she treats her sisters definitely had to do with her upbringing. She was taken in by a family of four, all of which were boys with the exception of the mother. Now, she was the fifth “member,” and because of the dominant male presence in the home she resided in, she then became more and more like a tomboy. Crude comebacks and loud, obnoxious outbursts became more and more evident in her persona as the boys' attitudes rubbed off her at an early age hardened her. Sui wasn't that smart; just average and extremely confident, bossy even with the other kids. However, this little world of bossing kids around wasn't going to last very long. Eventually, Sui became more and more interested in being the leader of groups. Sui moved away in the blink of an eye to the priestess' temple in the east.

There, the water sprite lived among the female humans, hardly taking anything seriously. Sui would pick cat-fights with the other girls who were training and doing their daily chores. She would be loud in sermons, laugh or giggle in the middle of a silence in prayer, and laugh at the various pranks she had pulled around the temple. When she was told that she was going to be sent away if this kept up, Sui pulled the classic, I-have-no-family-or-home-or-friends Sob Story. That was what kept her alive, and spank-free at the temple. Through the three or four years that Sui spent there, she never changed her persona, nor her manners.

At the end of her stay, Sui had an invisible force pull her out of her bed, and start sleepwalking towards the center of Japan, where her other sisters were just beginning to converge. Of course, Sui had been far too exhausted from her chores to bother changing her clothes from that morning's kimono, and so she eventually woke up a day's walk away form the temple, not knowing what the heck was going on, but then went into a trance for the rest of the way until she woke up, standing next to her four other sisters.

Mei was always the motherly type, trying to help her other sisters to not be intimidated by Sui. She is in a constant drama against Sui, who in turn, is more intimidating than she and can think of a good comeback against Mei. Mei tends to shun alcohol, and think of herself as a good role model for her three "sane" sisters. Mei is on her toes at all times, and thinks of a good plan just in case when things go wrong. She has a short temper, and has a roaring fit when her sisters do nothing but ignore her all day. Mei is also a nonstop complainer. Her authority as the eldest is questioned everyday by Sui's merciless criticizm.
