Kaname is overall a very kindhearted person who will do anything possible to help her friends, whether they really need her help or not. She cares deeply for the well-being of others, far over her own well-being. Since returning to her own era after her trip to the Feudal one, she has learned a lot about the ways of the world as well as the hardships that people face, even in her own time. She misses the friends she made in the Feudal Era; especially two in particular. However, after her trip to the Feudal Era she has become much better at hiding her real emotions and thoughts, keeping all of her worries inside so as to not upset her family or her friends.

History
Detailed Personal History: She lives in the modern era of Japan and lives at the Kururugi Shrine, where her family is holding the Doll Festival, a ritual of placing a name in a wooden doll painted with the symbol of the Shikigami (a red star inside a circle). As the dolls are burned, the legend says that you will be able to see the person whose name you put inside. Since she is late for the festival, her father sends her to the store house to retrieve more talismans. A symbol appears on the floor and she falls through it, arriving in the Sengoku era.
After getting chased by a demon and then unwittingly destroying it with unawakened Shikigami powers within her, she meets Inuyasha and Myoga, who take her to Kaede's village where she, along with Kagome Higurashi and Shippo are waiting. Kagome attempts to take her back to the modern age with the Bone-Eater's Well, the gateway Kagome uses to move between the ages, but finds it does not work. Stuck in the past until they can find a way to send her back, Kaname joins Inuyasha and Kagome on their adventures.
While traveling, they run into a new enemy: Utsugi, a "hitogata" (clay doll demon) who looks very similar to Kururugi and seems able to use the Shikigami. Her goal is the take her descendant Kururugi's soul and use it along with the power of Shikigami to become fully human. With help from a blind old priest named Kakaju, Kururugi awakens the spiritual power of Shikigami within her and uses it to aid InuYasha and her party in their quest.
After a long-fought battle, and risking their lives many times, Naraku is seemingly defeated by the combined efforts of Kururugi and the others. However, after time passes, Kururugi decides to leave Kaede's Village and find Utsugi — the only one who could seen her back to the modern era. Kakuju is killed while traveling with them, and uses his remaining moments of life to transfer his soul into an amulet and protect Kururugi when Utsugi tries to take her soul.
Kururugi then confronts Utsugi, who is taken over by Naraku for Utsugi's Shikigami powers. With Utsugi's help and after a very difficult battle, Naraku is once again defeated. Utsugi is released, but dies soon after, for Kakuju's soul in the amulet merges with her instead of Kururugi's.
With Utsugi's death, Kururugi returns to the modern era at the point where she left.
Since returning to her own era, she has missed all of the friends she made in the Feudal one terribly. She especially misses Sesshomaru, whom she had developed a crush on. She has tried to go back in time, but can't seem to be able to manage it. However, a few days ago she received a mysterious letter that wasn't signed. When she opened up the envelope, she was surprised to discover that it wasn't a letter at all.
In fact, it was a page from a history book--the kinds of books that she spent all of her free time reading, hoping for news on her friends. The page included a paragraph that vaguely mentioned the friends that she had made, and that they were in danger. She didn't know whether or not to believe it, but since she received the letter, she has become extremely worried for her friends' safety.
