It's been about two and a half years after the attack of Konohagakure no Sato (Hidden Leaf Village), the fight between Akatsuki and the Konoha Shinobi is done and over with. But, with the price of victory on their hands, Konoha has lost some valuable shinobi. None of them would be forgotten, even if no one saw them anyway. Their names have been put onto the Memorial Stone and now new ninja fill in their place.
One death especially hurt the village of leaves momentarily. Godaime Hokage, Tsunade-sama, was killed by the hands of 'God'. Perhaps it was regret in her mind when she figured she was dying, or maybe it was shame for dying, but there was a smile on her face. She died in honor, in honor of the leaf and in honor of those who have come before her. Her grandfather, her great grand uncle, her mentor, her brother, her lover and the Toad Sanin, Jiraiya. Sorrow, sadness, nostalgic feelings filled Konohagakure as they mourned for their fallen leader.
While Pein was off towards Myobokuzan, Uzumaki Naruto was still trying to learn the ways of Sage Mode. With the help of Fukasaku, he managed only to complete the first phase. The rest was failure and by the time Pein and his other counterparts showed up it was no use. Though the village of Konoha all prayed for the fox boy to win, he didn't. He was severely injured, his body tattered and torn on the ground with Fukasaku not too far away. His eyes were half closed, blood stained his clothing and he was breathing faintly. Like he was dead. Konoha's reinforcements came only moments later. Haruno Sakura, one of the medical ninja among them, could only run and yell Naruto's name. He would be a mess once fixed up.
In Tsunade's place for Hokage, three months after the attack, was Hatake Kakashi himself who took the role of now Rokudaime Hokage. Selected by the still breathing Homura and Koharu, he had no choice but to lead the village. He himself was still injured, but could managed money affairs and many other duties that he needed to take care of. Naruto was healing quickly, just as always, but when hearing of the Godaime's death he immediately fell from grace. It was just like hearing Jiraiya's death all over again--but this time, it was Sakura who helped him out of his depression. She could only tell him, "Cheer up, Naruto. If you're sad you won't be able to see how beautiful this world realy is. You told me that before, right?" And it was true. His very own words coming right back to him.
Meanwhile, Akatsuki is licking their wounds from their attack...They're thinking, planning, scheming for their revenge. They had to get the Nine Tails. It was necassary for their plan. Of course, it would be easy now that they had Uchiha Sasuke and his team allied with them. It was just one part of their plan.
It's been two years, since the attack and the village of Konoha is once again flourishing. There has been no sign of Uchiha Sasuke since two years ago, which makes Naruto and Sakura quite anxious. They hope, pray and tell themselves that nothing happened to him--that nothing happened to their teammate but they are never sure. They are still hurt, still broken by the betrayal but allow themselves to move on. Because even though they went tragic moments in their life when most ninja twice their age have yet to notice, they know that it's still a beautiful world--just as Kakashi said, just have to look underneath the underneath.
"Underneath all the pain, loneliness, sadness, tragedy...There always is a beautiful world somewhere."
