A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away . . .
The year is 3,734 BBY, exactly 222 years after the destruction of the Star Forge, the defeat of Darth Malak, and the return of the Prodigal Knight Revan before his decent into the unknown. Now, hundreds of years later, a new threat to the republic draws near - a threat that could possibly mark the end of the Force.
Until recently, the Republic has been engaged in both civil war and attacks from the Dark Jedi Academy. The fifty year long war came to a stand-still after the Chancellor declared a Cease Fire Act with the Dark Jedi. After several long months of peace, extensive meetings, and debates, The Dark Jedi Academy agreed to the peace treaty under two conditions - the Republic officially declare themselves neutral, and all conquered planets and territories remain under their control.
The Jedi Council didn't approve of this sudden action. During the official signing of the treaty between the Chancellor and the Dark Lord Judicar, a Jedi Strike team was formed to assassinate the Sith. During the signing, the Jedi’s plan was foiled by the Dark Lord himself, and the Chancellor had no choice but to remove the Jedi from office, not wanting another war to spark. As a result, the Jedi were banished from the senate. However, they do remain on Coruscant, only holding one seat in the senate instead of their usual three. The Jedi were no longer the protectors of the Republic after the Senate agreed that they where unable to defend them anymore.
* * *
Recently, relations between the Jedi and Dark Jedi, while not exactly ‘civil’, have indeed been bearable, as both side are vying for power within the Senate, hoping to sway the Chancellor to their ideals. They are not actively fighting one another for fear of loosing their standing. A few skirmishes occur throughout the Outer Rim, where the Republic sometimes turns a blind eye to violence.
It wasn’t until a young Jedi Master came across a strange phenomenon while on route back to the Jedi temple that anything out of the ordinary occurred. The young Master witnessed the sudden destruction of a small planet in the distance near Coruscant, probably one of Coruscan'ts moons. It was very odd - only a man-made machine could have destroyed the planet. And to make matters worse, the Jedi Master was so affected by the sudden, painful experience, he passed out on the road.
When he awoke, he was onboard an unknown ship sitting face to face with the 'True' Sith Lord. It was strange, however, that even though the inhabitant's of the ship emitted some sort of dark nature, he felt no type of Force power from them. They weren’t machines, he could tell that much.
The True Sith, having no knowledge of Galactic Basic, infiltrated his mind and spoke to him telepathically, after implanting the Jedi with their language. He spoke of their history, their culture, how they where known as the True Sith by some and the Dark Reapers by others. He explained how they, the Sith, were a sentinel race, but that unlike every other race, they had no midi-chlorians. That was very strange. Didn't all life forms require midi-chlorians to survive? Did that mean they where dead? The Sith Master explained how, because of their inability to use Force energy, they where quickly endangered of becoming extinct by more powerful races such as humans.
The Jedi, now filled with dark secrets no one should ever know, was allowed to return to his ship and flee in order to warn the Republic of the new threat. They truly were powerful, he mused, "to destroy an entire planet, to drain it of it’s life force sending a shockwave so great I almost had a heart attack."
He returned to the temple, noticing his sluggish moves as he walked toward the Council Chambers. He noticed the surprise on the masters faces. They hadn't sensed him coming. No Jedi could mask themselves that well, especially from the most powerful Force users of this era. So the master gave his report that had so deeply troubled him. However, it wasn’t the threat that troubled them. It was due to the fact that when they looked upon the man all they saw - all they felt - an echo.
What will the Jedi do? Will they warn their fellow Force sensitive users, the Dark Jedi? Or will they keep this dark secret to themselves? Only time will tell.
