So I have my gripes with the "Iron Reaver Soul Stealer" thing. But given that the literal translation of the kanji for "Sankontessou" would have been "Soul-Scattering Iron Claw," maybe they needed something even campier. Some things are best left... untranslated.
So anyway, Kuro, along with her can of Pepsi and too many hours of Inuyasha, present:
-------
The Battle For... Really Nifty Dentistry!
SESSHOUMARU: I, Killing Life Circle, want your mighty Iron Crushing Fang, Supernatural Being Dog. You are nothing but a half-demon. And my sword, Heavenly Life Fang, and Fight Ogre Soul, will smash you and Abysmal Hell (strangely, Naraku can also mean "theater basement" LMAO) to pieces.
INUYASHA: Keh! Don't make me laugh, Killing Life Circle! My friends Buddhist Maitreya, Ocean Coral, and Seven Treasures, and my would-be girlfriend Kagome...
KAGOME: Haha, my name is all in hiragana, so it stays as it is!
KIKYOU: It WOULD have been woven bamboo-pattern, y'know.
KAGOME: That's not the POINT, Chinese Bellflower girl! So stay away from me, stay away from Super-dog, and we'll all be happy, hm?
******
And let's not forget when my two favorite boys go at it...
KAGOME: Laa dee daa daa... here we are in the middle of the forest, looking for the Four-Souls Ball.
SHIPPOU: Something's coming this way, Super-dog.
INUYASHA: *sniffs the air* Awwwww, sh**********t!
(WHOOSH!!)
KOUGA: Yo!
SANGO: ...Steel Fang? From the Magical Wolf Tribe? What are you doing here?
KOUGA: Looking for Abyssmal Hell (or Theater Basement), so I can beat the crap outta him, of course! And I'm naturally here to make Kagome my woman. Again. Becasue that's what I always do. And YOU'RE still around, Little Puppy Boy?
INUYASHA: You... you... ARGH! Take this, wolf-freak! SPIRIT SHATTERING IRON CLAW!
(fight fight fight.... clang slash bwah.... chaching grrrr-graowl.... slobber.... kick spit fight!)
KOUGA: Haha, you suck, Little Puppy Boy!
INUYASHA: SHUT UP, you scrawny wolf!!! Now let me Wound of the Wind or Explosive Flow Blast you...
******
And then there's my favorite term ever in Inuyasha...
"Osuwari."
Simply put, it comes from the word suwaru, which means "to sit." But with Japanese, in order to conjugate a verb (make it into past, future, present tenses), you do a buncha funny things to it. You can also make them into "honorific" verbs, like something you'd say to a boss or someone much higher on the social ladder than yourself. The term "o-suwari" is actually an honorific. So if you ask someone to sit in an EXTREMELY polite way, you'd say "osuwari kudasai" (although "okake kudasai" means the same, and is usually better to use).
So anyway. "Osuwari" (alone) is indeed a command that is used to mean "sit." And it's indeed used for dogs. And small children. Seriously. But still, it's kinda like saying....
"HONORABLE SIT!!!"
I dunno, I just find that quite amusing. My poor Western brain...

Inuyasha movie mistranslations...
Now the first time I ever watched Inuyasha: Toki wo Koeru Omoi, I watched it raw. Anyhow, as Kagome was standing at the tree, believing she can no longer go back to sengoku jidai, I particularly remember this line making me giggle, even if I understood it perfectly.
At first I heard: "Mou koi ga todokanai."
Of course, it's supposed to mean "so love can't reach him." But when I heard it, my mind twisted it up. Koi means "love," but it also means... well... let's just say that I retranslated the line and made it:
"My carp is inadequate."
On an added note (as someone emailed me to say, and she's absolutely correct... I just never corrected this) - it turns out Kagome was saying "Mou KOE ga todokanai" - which means "my voice can't reach him" - when I read the script a few months later. But this way was funnier...
