Detailed Personality Description:
Zasalamel has a cold, slightly menacing and regal presence about him. He usually just looks on emotionlessly, as his emotions had been slowly eroded by the millennia that had passed since he had mastered the art of reincarnation. Once, this was because he had lost the will to live, having become sick of eternal life, and the deepening spiral of his depression every time he reincarnates. Now, this is simply to keep up appearances, as he had found that he rather liked the reactions that people have in his presence.
Zasalamel also has a role model, Telal (It means Wicked Demon in Sumerian), more commonly known as Ryuu. From the Telal, he learned to become ruthless in battle, and how to become more open and rebel against tradition. Most importantly however, the Telal taught him to follow his heart and do whatever he wished. This is suitably ironic, as the enemy of his tribe was the one to give him his most valuable lesson.
Zasalamel is also fiercely loyal to whoever gains his trust, respect, and friendship, a remnant of his tribal upbringing in his first life. If they managed to get his loyalty, they could get to know his inner personality. His true personality is that of a rather carefree man, which a penchant for battle and sarcasm, lots of sarcasm. So far though, only Yuan Long, Saa Fu Lang, and the Telal have seen this side of him, and the Telal has not seen him in over a thousand years.

Detailed Personal History:
Zasalamel was born in a tribe near the Euphrates River, and near Mesopotamia during the last few years of the reign of the Sumerian people. Specifically, he was born with a warrior father and a housekeeping mother, both of which worshipped the sun god, Utu, along with the great An and Ki, the god of heaven and the goddess of Earth, respectively. He grew up among his people as a promising, yet carefree young warrior, one who grew up with stories of the Hero King, Algol.
Zasalamel personally never cared for the Hero King when he was growing up. He was more fascinated by the Telal, the being who slew him and took the Soul blades for his own. After all, any being that is able to kill the Hero King must be very powerful indeed. Besides, he seemed to be more… interesting than the Hero King. He didn’t tell that to anyone else though, as that would be equal to blasphemy.
On his 12th birthday, there started a war between the Sumerians and the people who would later be collectively known as the Amorites. Seeing this, the tribe decided to join the banner of the Amorites, due to reasons known only to the elder. In the war, all boys 11 and up were required to join as the mandate of the Amorite leader Hammurabi proclaimed in order to help them destroy an already weakened Sumer.
When he reached the age of 16, the kingdom of Sumer finally fell to the Amorites. When they did, hey sacked Mesopotamia and established a new capital, Babylon. However, the remnants of Sumer were in shambles, and those that lived in and near it suffered as they lost their main income due to the war. However, Hammurabi quickly made Babylon a thriving empire. A few years later, he had untied all of Mesopotamia under his rule, with Zasalamel serving as one of his soldiers still.
During the course of these years, Zasalamel had changed greatly. He had become exposed to the horrors of war, and strangely enough it did not disgust him, as the others were. Rather, it gave him a sense of purpose, a sense of life. However, he had almost died more than once.
There was that one time when he was the only one of his group left, with the enemy still strong and barely dented. He had thought that was the end of him while he stared at the remaining foes with a lot of injuries, but someone had saved him. It was a boy who looked to be from the lands beyond Egypt. He deciminated the ranks as if they were nothing but wheat to a scythe during the harvest. This made Zasalamel look on the boy in awe as he accomplished what his team could not, right before falling into unconsciousness.
The boy treated his wounds, and while Zasalamel healed, the boy talked to him and made friends with him. Zasalamel learned many things from him as the days passed by, and the boy learned many things from him as well. Three lunar cycles later, and he had fully healed from his injuries. He longed to be able to go home to his family, which the boy allowed with a strange smile, but as Zasalamel was about to offer for the boy to come with him, he refused and simply told him that he did not want to see civilization just yet. Zasalamel agreed with a sigh, and the boy gave him his own supplies, a horse to travel with, and a simple scythe.
Before he went, he asked the boy for his name, hoping that he would finally answer. All he said was to call him Telal, and then he went out of the cave and vanished before the other boy could recover from his shock. When Zasalamel finally recovered, he rode the horse back to his home, contemplating on the young boy’s final revelation along the way.
When he came home, he was regarded with shock and animosity by his tribe. They had been informed by the army three months ago that he was dead, and that his body had gone missing. They naturally had believed them. Now they thought Zasalamel was a Gigim Xul come back to haunt them. The natural reaction of course, was to banish him, and try to kill and/or exorcise him, despite his protests to the contrary. Seeing no reason in the eyes of his tribe, he fled, his heart beating in sorrow as he did.
A few months after he fled, he met some wandering holy people, who were on a quest to master reincarnation. Having nothing else to do and live for, he joined them. Surprisingly, he was actually able to master reincarnation at the age of 23. The others were either dead or they had failed and lived a happy life. Happy with his achievement, he went on and traveled the world.
A thousand years later, and he found out that he had become sick of life in general. He was sick of all the sadness, the loneliness that came with being immortal, even though he was reincarnated each and every time. Thus, he decided to seek out what would give him his final rest. Through research he had found out that the energy of the Soul swords could kill him, which made him go on another quest: find Telal.
However, no matter where he searched, and although there were sightings of him, and even evidences that he had been in a place, Telal was not there. He desperately tried to follow leads, which led him to a ghost chase for over 500 years, before he got wind of rumors that he may have a base in China where he frequents. Hearing that, he went to China, and searched. However, China was a vast place, and it took him the course of several reincarnations, just to get sufficient knowledge to find out where it was, which was in the mountain ranges to the north, where the springs of Zhòuquánxiāng resided.
He went there, and at the first feel of the place, he quickly turned his back and walked a random direction. No way would he want to mess with something that old and powerful. As he walked on, he heard sounds of battle, coincidentally right in the direction where he was walking, and so went to investigate. There he saw humans who had animal blood mixed in them being slaughtered by warrior women. He decided to save the men from being killed by the women, swinging his scythe Kafziel into the fray.
He ended up saving the animal men, who called themselves the Musk. In thanks, they took him to the fortress for him to become an honorary member of the Musk. When they got there, one of the soldiers smiled and took off his disguise, revealing him to be Xia Qin, prince of the Musk. The other soldiers and Zasalamel himself were shocked at the revelation that they were apparently in the presence of heir to the throne.
Fast forwarding 1500 years, Zasalamel has now refined his immortality even further so that he does not age, and that he only reincarnates when killed. He also gained a place in the Musk and in the Phoenix as well. He had finally abandoned his quest for true death, after much pleading, cajoling and plain threats, and the vision from the seer about mankind reaching the heavens.
A few more hundred years later, in his newest reincarnation, the current emperor of the Musk, Ling Xia, and the new phoenix king, Saa Fu Lang had a request for him. They had asked that he find the Di Yu and bring him here to meet them so that they could re-establish their alliance, and scare off the Amazon women. Zasalamel agreed, feeling a bit of wanderlust anyway.
Now, Zasalamel searches for the Di Yu, starting in Japan….
