History
Detailed Personal History:
The Shinkyou family lived in a small town in northern Japan, in the Hokkaidô region, for centuries. The small town's name was Hamatonbetsu, a town so small it had less than 5,000 residents. The family's register, basically a family tree including the names of all family members, past and current, had been in the area since before the towns founding.
Despite the family being wealthy by Hokkaidô standards, they where still relatively upper middle class by the national meaning. After the family gave birth to it's youngest daughter, the Shinkyou family had three children. The oldest was a girl, she was 13 at the time of the youngest daughters birth; her name was Shinkyou, Airi, her name meant Love of Pears. The second oldest was a boy who was eight at the time of her birth; his name was Shinkyou, Kenshin, meaning Modest and truthful. The youngest daughter was named Shinkyou, Yua.
As Yua a child she would often find herself wearing sweaters and other long sleeved clothing due to the year round cold that surrounded Hokkaidô. Despite being treated like the family's baby, she was strangely adventurous as a child. Often sneaking out into the fields to watch the swans that would come.
While out in the fields near the freshwater Lake Kutcharo, a world famous wetlands area home to thousands of swans, she saw a little boy sitting on a rock near the waters edge. Curious, she went up to him and began to talk to him. She began to make trips to the lake daily to speak to the boy, who's name was Kouki, Kiyoshi, a name meaning ' The Radiance around my Lucky Son '.
Both her parents noticed and became curious as to where she was going every day, and eventually followed her. When they saw her talking to herself by the lake, they became worried, but quickly decided it was just an imaginary friend. So as she kept leaving and returning every day, they watched, not caring much.
One day one of Yua's conversations with Kiyoshi came to a stair case near the Onsen on the other side of the lake. It had Twenty Eight steps, but legend said that if you climbed the stairs while counting each one, the Twenty Ninth step would appear and the fox spirit would grant your wish. Kiyoshi told Yua he had gone up there once, but things had not turned out well. He hadn't gotten his wish. He then asked Yua if she would go up the stairs for him.
She agreed and later on that night she went around the river to the Onsen, a hot spring resort, and began to look for the stairs. Once she found them she began to climb them, one by one, counting every step. One... Two...Three.......... Twenty Six... Twenty Seven... Twenty Eight........ Nothing. Nothing had happened. She merely stood there, staring ahead.
In Front of her was what appeared to be a grave marker. It was memorial stone, the name written across it was ' Kouki, Kiyoshi '. Yua noticed how dusty and dirty it was, and realized no one had visited the stone often. She turned to leave, quickly memorizing the location of the memorial stone and ran down the stairs, to head home.
However as she began to run down the stairs, her foot slipped on the wet stone and she went crashing down the stairs. Luckily a couple from the Onsen had been on a walk and had seen her fall. They quickly call an ambulance and she was rushed to the nearest Healer, in the near by town, Wakkanai.
Once she was there she was kept at the healers home for two weeks in critical condition. After staying there for two weeks she returned back to Hamatonbetsu. At first her parents wouldn't let her leave the home, but eventually Yua got past their defenses and made it back to the stairs. She climbed them again, counting again, and made it to the top, with out the twenty ninth stair case appearing.
However, she did see the Memorial stone again, and this time she had brought a bag of items. For the rest of the day she cleaned the stone and decorated it. When she finished, she laid down next to it, and some how fell asleep. She was found by her parents and taken back to the house. When she woke up the next day, both her parents got angry at her for leaving the house.
After another week, she began to go out to the lake every day, but Kiyoshi never returned.
Eventually, she began working, and was labeled as the girl who talked to imaginary demons. In order to show them she wasn't psychotic as they claimed she was, she began studying super natural activities and attempted to leave home to become a priestess.
One day, in an attempt to save up money for travels, she applied for a job at the Onsen. However, while she was in the lobby, she noticed a shrine in the corner. It was for a little boy that had died at the Onsen twenty years earlier. He had fallen off the stairs out back and died from head trauma and bleeding; it was the same situation with Yua, only she had been found in time. The name read 'Kouki, Kiyoshi' and there was a picture of him right next to it.
After thanking the Manager of the Onsen, she ran home to tell her parents, only to enter on one of their many arguments. She quickly snuck down the halls, and went to her room. Her parents where arguing about the usual, their daughter and her odd interests.
Two months later, in the dead of night, Yua snuck away from her home in order to persue a career as a traveling exorcist.
