His white paws thudded against the craggy terrain, the black fur rings that surrounded his ankles flashing brightly in comparison to the white legs. His grey overcoat was sleek and his blue eyes glowed in the dusky sunset. Rocks wriggled loose as he ran up the steep and narrow path that went up along the mountain, the cyan lines beneath shining just as brightly. His slightly short, but bushy tail was raised as he galloped up, his fronts moving together, his powerful hind legs propelling him forward. He had left his pack in charge of his beta male, Ivory, to see the sunset here. Because, along with the sunset, it was said that sometimes, you could glimpse into the future as well. The catch was that it had to be during a solar eclipse.
Remember how I said dusky sunset? It just looked like that. It wasn't actually sunset, but the moon was blocking half the sun out. Nightfell reared back and jumped onto a protruding ledge as he continued scaling Mt. Iriai, his teeth bore into a snarl of determination. He had to get there; If her could glimpse into the future, maybe he'd see himself... and her. Together. It was what he hoped for. Maybe she wasn't dead after all. Maybe they could still find each other.
The alpha dire wolf dashed faster, the moon covering three-fourths of the moon.
'Must... reach the summit!' He yelled inside his head. And all of a sudden, he reached the top. He leapt, and flew right to the small, flat expanse of rocky ground that was the summit. He looked to the sky, and the moon. The sun was a mere crescent now. So Nightfell lifted his maw, and howled. The soulful note carried over the miles of land, reaching each far corner of Japan. And somewhere, he heard the howls of other wolves, wolf demons, and his own pack; each note they sung for him was clear and distinct to him, in harmony with his own song.
And so his vision began. There she was, in all her untouched, sleek, auburn beauty; her fiery orange coat, and her steady, unwavering yellow gaze. He savored her loveliness. Then he looked around her. He saw himself, sitting up on a ledge nearby, his pack moving around the clearing. He saw Indigo, the trouble-making pup, older now, but still playful and an omega, rough-housing with three new pups. He narrowed his eyes. Those pups weren't in his pack... Then he saw himself looking proudly upon the trio, and glace lovingly at the flaming she-wolf. Realization dawned on him. His beautiful Meadowlark would have his pups. She was alive, and would stay alive.
As he looked on in happiness, he noticed three more unfamiliar pups, and two strange she-wolves. Beside each she-wolf stood one of his males. Beside a small black one sat Shadowtail, and next to the other, a mottled tan and grey one, sat Ivory. They looked at the three scuffling pups; one with a tan pelt pale as dust; one with an ashy black coat, and the other with a coat back as night. Then he thought about it, and it made sense; the black ones belonged to Shadowtail and the little black female, and the remaining beige one belonged to his beta male, and future betess. He gave a wolfy grin, and closed his eyes, cutting off the howl he had never ceased in the real world. His blue eyes opened with a new, more determined look. He lifted his head, and howled across Japan his joy. [/size]
