History
Detailed Personal History: Michail Naggorites/Azazel was born in the greek part of the Byzantine Empire, 982 A.D., in the Pella province. He came from a wealthy, powerful and corrupted family of psions, who had made ancient pacts with the Eight Archdevils of Avernus, the demonic Lords of the brass plains of Stygia, the cycle of hell where the souls of the violent and the desceptful were cast. In return for the terrible they were granted, the Eight required the sacrifise of a male child every 30 years. Upon Michail's birth, the 29th year since last time had already passed, so he became the sacrifise. For an unknown reason, his soul was not destroyed as it should've been, but was cast out of Hell and returned to his body. Fearing that this meant the end of the pact between the Eight, the Naggor family abandoned Michail in the forests of Pella, leaving him for the wolves.
Unfortunately, the child was found by a slaver, who sold him to a Justaerin House, where he was raised and became a household servant. Oblivious to his heritage and psionic nature, Michail remained a servant until his 14th year, when the Naggor family and the Sevantes met to discuss an alliance between them. At some point during their meeting, the patriarch of the Naggor, Diomides, called for a refreshment, which Michail served. Immidiately recognising the boy's face, he suspected that the Sevantes were using him as a means to blackmail him into the alliance. Naturally, the meeting ended in a bloody reckoning, where the House of Sevantes was ahnilated and Michail was taken back to Pella. Reluctantly, they allowed the youth to live among them, teaching him the ways of a psion and training in the use of his abilites and combat.
Upon reaching adulthood 4 years later, Michail served his family as an assassin and spy, using his sharp wits to gain a position in the byzantine Imperial Court and managing to stay close with the Emperor Nikiforos. He quietly ahnilated any noble that dared go against the Naggor family and did an excellent work in finding out traitors, earning him respect with his family. However, they still remembered the way the Eight had cast him out of Hell as a babe and kept mistrusting him. And with good reason. Soon after his 25th year something terrible started awakening inside of him. For months Michail would hear whispers in his mind and wake up screaming in the dead of night, seeing visions of Stygia and the Eight Lords of Avernus.
When a year passed, Michail and seven of his clan members were sent by the Naggor family to uncover and collect an artifact from an underground tomb in Asia Minor. The tomb was no other than the Maussolium of Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. Upon entering the main chamber of the tomb, Michail and his party were attacked by a large number of mummified corpses, led by Mausolus himself, the ancient greek king that was buried there. Unable to overcome the terrible undead lord, Michail awakened all of his psionic powers at once, trying to bring the whole mausolium down and take the undead with him, in an act of spiteful revenge. Instead, he opened a portal to Stygia, filling the tomb with the infernal power of Hell and turning every mummy inside to dust. Due to the connection between Earth and Hell, Icipher managed to fully awaken, creating the Star of Chaos upon Michail's chest and assaulted the psion's mind, corrutping him and making him lose control.
For the next 10 years he lived like a mindless animal, dwelling in the deep woods and hunting down both the creatures of the forest and humans for food or simply for the pleasure of slaughter. When the Archdevil's influence subsided, Michail regained control of his mind and set out for Pella. Upon reaching the stronghold of the Naggorites on the high mountains, he was attacked by them. Urged by Icipher, he killed the attackers and slaughtered every one in the stronghold, driven by the Archdevil's lies that his family had cursed him and tried to kill him, back in the tomb. A kinslayer now, Michail left the Byzantine Empire and headed north.
~The Years of Exile
Unable to return to his homeland, Michail became a mercenary and left for northeastern Europe, taking part in the wars between the lords of the Rus and Poland. With his psionic powers, superior sword skills, sharp wits and demon-fueled physical attributes, he descended upon his enemy like a tempest and soon became famous. The lord of Novgorod, east of the Baltic, offered him a place in his honor guard, which Michail gladly took. For 5 years he remained there, bathing in gold, glory and the blood of his enemies. However, the good times were not meant to last. When the Rus launched a campaign against Sweden, Michail marched along with the armies of Novgorod. When the campaign was succesful, the nations of the Rus started fighting among themselves for control over the conquered lands. Michail himself led the armies of Novgorod against Kiev, taking the city by siege and was soon promised the lordship over his conquered city by his lord and master. However, he gave Kiev to his first-born son, forsaking his promise to the psion.
Feeling betrayed and fed with Icipher's wrath, Michail and his troops abandoned the city and layed siege to Novgorod. After a year, the citadel finally fell and Azazel's impatient troops sacked the city, filling it with dead bodies and pillaging everything. It was then when Michail came to be known as The Terror of Novgorod. The mercenary impaled his former lord upon a stake and placed it on the city walls, for all to see. Immidiately after that, he left for the city-states of Germany. His army, dismayed by the loss of their leader, fell apart, the men forming mercenary bands and leaving Novgorod.
~Years of Reckoning
When he arrived in the lands of the former Holy Roman Empire, he was immidiately arrested by the Roman Inquisition, under the charge of heresy and witchcraft practising. Using his powers and wits, he manipulated the inquisitors and led them to believe that he was a warrior blessed by God. Michail was immidiately led to the Pope himself, who he manipulated as well, making him think the same as the inquisitors. The psion was immidiately given a duty by the church, rooting out and slaying demons and taking the mantle of the Inquisition as well, torturing 'heretics' and other enemies of the Church. Soon, however, he was given an offer he could not resist. A demon, named Arguthax, approached him and proposed to tell him the location of his surviving family members...if he would kill the Pope for him. Despite Michail's dislike for the Church, he was not foolish enough to do it and ripped the demon's soul out instead, throwing in the boiling pits of Avernus. After sometime, the demon finally spat out location of the surviving Naggorites. In return, Michail freed him and abandoned his duty an an inquisitor, setting out to claim his vengeance.
After a few years, he tracked down and brutally murdered all of his family in Europe, learning that more of them lived in Asia. The possesed psion left for the Middle East, where he got caught up in the 4th Crusade, which found him against his homeland, the Byzantium. He was with the Crusader's when they sacked Constantinople, taking part in the slaughter. Sick with his actions and realising the hold Icipher held over him, Michail abandoned his quest for revenge and left for Siberia, but kept mentally fighting the Archdevil for his soul and sanity.
And, after a trek through the steppes, he arrived at Japan.
